Michael Sala, RYT
Michael began his yoga practice in 1996 at Yoga Yoga in Austin, TX. After a decade of learning various styles—including Hatha, Kundalini, Ashtanga, and Iyengar—and moving to Minnesota along the way, he enrolled in the teacher training program at Yoga Center of Minneapolis. He completed his practicum in 2007 with a culminating experience in Rishikesh, India, with Darren Main. Michael is also a Thai Yoga Bodywork therapist, completing his training and practicum with Tanya Sowards in 2009. He sees bodywork clients in his home in Eden Prairie. By day he is a school social worker serving elementary students in Special Education. His dream is to create a professional practice in holistic healing, combining counseling, yoga, bodywork, and energy healing.
As the evolution of Michael’s personal teaching style continues, he pulls from a variety of yoga traditions and teachers as well as other facets of life. Most recently, he has been inspired by the Anusara tradition. He has a strong focus on alignment and technique, and a belief in the each student’s ability to access and express inner health regardless of outer limitations. Michael especially enjoys teaching beginner yogis and strives to meet individual needs with modifications, props, and alternatives. He supports a nurturing and relaxed atmosphere where students feel comfortable developing their own practice at their desired physical, mental, and spiritual level. His classes are intended to be fun, yet challenging, and to inspire bringing yoga from the mat into life.
Note from Karen: What Michael doesn't say is that he has also been working with children (in his "other" vocation) for a number of years and does volunteer work to support children as well. Michael is a generous & gentle being - you can be confident that you will be guided to new levels in learning yoga. Michael's class is on Thursday evenings.
